&index_title1=THE LODGE&index_txt2=Submerged in nature&index_txt1=The Lodge architecture has been inspired by the stunning Gond tribal villages which are situated on the fringes of Kanha, making it blend effortlessly with the forest and rural architecture. Local material and manpower has been used extensively in building the lodge, many construction workers have been trained and are now part of the permanent lodge team.
The Lodge is tucked in a forested area of 16 acres adjoining the buffer zone of Kanha in a small tribal hamlet. The lodge is set in deep jungles away from the tourism hub of Kanha yet close enough for an easy access to the Khatia/Kisli park gate, there is good opportunity to view variety of mammals and birds around the lodge itself. The area is untouched by any kind of tourism or development and offers the discerning guest the guarantee of privacy. It offers lovely walks and biking trails around the lodge. While Kanha has a reputation of being over crowded with lodges, we have no neighbouring lodges or highways.&index_txt3=Luxury Accommodation&index_txt4=The lodge offers only 12 beautiful open fronted bungalows with en suite bathrooms and dressing room and large open verandahs set in 16 acres of jungle. All bedrooms have spilt air conditioners and 100 percent power back up for the erratic rural supply. The lodge is rustic yet deluxe built mainly with local stone, logs, baked tiles, tribal artifacts and done up with fine rustic furniture, sanitary fittings and cotton upholstery. The main lodge building has the dining hall, a nature library cum presentation room and office cum eco shop. The eco shop contributes 25 percent of its sale proceeds for conservation activities in Central India. The infinity pool is set between Mahua trees and its infinity edge merges with the jungles of the Kanha forest.&index_txt5=Incredible Dining Experience&index_txt6=Our dining hall is open only to in house guests and serve a variety of Indian and Continental meals cooked with locally sourced fresh produce from the neighbouring villages. We take pride in sourcing all our ingredients fresh from the villages and grind our own spices. To ensure a regular variety of vegetables and fruits reach our kitchen every day we have encouraged a village kitchen garden project. Under the Baadi (Kitchen garden) we have already partnered with 5 families to grow fresh produce needed by the lodge. We support them with seeds and technical manpower. We also visit weekly village markets for fresh produce. Guests are welcome to visit the Baadis and weekly markets during village walks. We are happy to consider special dietary requirements with prior information.&index_txt1a=Exclusive area in Kanha &index_img1=images/index1.jpg&

&second_title1=ABOUT KANHA
&second_txt2=Kanha tiger reserve is spread over 1949 sq km (940 sq km is the core zone and 1009 is the buffer zone), making it one of the best habitats for Tiger in India. It lies within longitude 80-26-10 to 81-4-40 and latitude 22-1-5 to 22-27-48 Google Link. Kanha is situated in the Central Indian Highlands which are part of the extensive tableland that forms the main peninsula of India. The highlands once were continuous forests and accounted for significant part of the total forests and wildlife habitats of India. Today the Central Highland stands fragmented in parks like Panna, Bandhavgarh, Kanha, Pench and Sanjay.&second_txt1=The Kanha eco system is marked by undulating landscape dotted with dense groves of vegetation, hillocks and rolling meadows. Though all are important, the Kanha meadows are the life line because of its sustaining capacity to hold large numbers of Chital, Sambar, Barasingha and Gaur, indirectly supporting populations of predators and co predators. Kanha is primarily a moist peninsular Sal forest and moist mixed deciduous forest, the forest mainly constitute Sal, Bamboo, Tendu, Jamun, Arjun and Lendia.&second_txt3=The parks greatest achievement has been the preservation of Hard Ground Swamp Deer (Barasingha), from near extinction (only 66 in 1970) today the number is more than 400. It is the only surviving population in the wild. Kanha though supports a vast variety of flora and fauna it is popular for Tiger, Leopard, Sloth Beer, Barasingha, Gaur, Fox, Jungle Cat and Wild Dogs.&second_txt4=Relevant reading&second_txt5=Kanha Glimpses of a Tiger Reserve - Nayak and Shukla&second_txt6=Central Highland forest - Capt J Forsth&second_txt7=Deer and The Tiger - George Schaller &second_txt8=Birds of the Indian Subcontinent – Grimmet and Inskipp &second_txt9=Field Guide to Indian Mammals - Vivek Menon &second_img1=images/kanha.jpg&

Local knowledge and art has been incorporated in the development and the lodge has been constructed using local manpower. Bandhavgarh was established in 1968 as a National Park, and is spread over an area of 448 sq. kms. This national park was declared as a tiger reserve under Project Tiger in the year 1993. As a conscious decision the lodge is situated remotely away from the tourism hub, yet close enough for an easy access to the park.
Kanha Tiger Reserve’s spectacular Sal and Bamboo forest, rolling grasslands and meandering streams stretch over 1945 sq. km. in the heart of central highlands. This is the original Kipling country so fondly written about in his Jungle Book. The park is the only home to the rare hard ground Barasingha found in its large grasslands. &Tenth_txt1=Have you ever walked on a Pugdundee?
In Hindi, Pugdundee means a foot trail used by animals and humans and refers to the narrow, beaten paths that wind through the Indian jungles. Pugdundee Safaris' roots are in central India where we made a humble start in 1986 with a small camp in Panna. Today, we own and manage 6 exclusive safari lodges set in the breathtaking wilderness of 5 tiger reserves: Panna, Bandhavgarh, Kanha, Pench and Satpura.
Pugdundee Safaris is recognized as one of India's leading responsible safari companies. Between 2010 and 2013, we have been awarded for our excellence in eco-tourism, our commitment to green architecture, our experienced naturalists and our pioneering mobile safari initiative.
We believe that responsible tourism and wildlife conservation go hand-in-hand. Thus, we passionately promote responsible travel, adopt sustainable practices and facilitate local involvement in conservation by empowering the communities that surround our lodges. Our dedicated team of 150 (many of whom belong to nearby villages), provide a truly authentic Indian wildlife experience.
At Pugdundee, our every endeavour is driven by our deep love for India's forests and our passion for its wildlife. And we attempt to nurture in each of our guests, this same enduring love for India's wild spaces.
So come, walk on a pugdundee with us.

&green_title1=Going Green
&greenq_txt1="No matter how far you journey, you are always on home ground on Mother Earth. And for her
hospitality, She demands so little. That wherever we travel, we respect her landscapes, conserve her
resources, value her local traditions. It is only if we travel this way that we can gift our children the same
green, generous planet to explore"
&green_txt1=At Kanha Earth Lodge we realise how important a healthy wildlife habitat is for everyone. Our policy is to practise sustainable wildlife tourism under high standards. We are signatories of TOFT and M.P. Eco Tourism Board and have generated our own lodge checklist to raise the awareness of conservation and sustainability for our lodge employees and all the local partners who engage with us on a day to day basis. We are developing a Performance measure by generating a criteria and self-audit within our lodges and with our local partners. Our Lodge has been built with high standards of green architecture, which was acknowledged by Stone Foundation of India by awarding us the winner in 2010 -11 for Sustainable use of stone in green architecture. Kanha Earth Lodge has also been awarded Best Eco Lodge in 2012 by M.P Eco Tourism Board and The Most Admired Eco Lodge of the year by Golden Star Awards in Feb 2013.&
&green_txt2=Main focus areas are
Minimise Environmental and Ecological Impact
Choosing products of "green purchasing" and "energy conservation" can assist minimise habitat impacts. At all our lodges we try to use them and educate our staff on why we are using such products. With this we hope we can change the attitude of tens of personnel working at our various lodges and build an institutional culture "We are part of the natural system not above it".
Maximise Social/Cultural Impact
Each of our lodges is to some degree an eco-lodge. We try and encourage to employ and procure most of whatever is possible from locals only. By this we guarantee that the locals are also included into the emerging wildlife tourism sector and are directly benefited. We encourage locals to demonstrate and share with us and our guests their native skills, cultural practises and their way of life. We would like to help, save and appreciate both their social and cultural practises.
Economic Impact
We believe that conservation of wild habitats and wildlife in India is only possible if it has an economic incentive. Through our Conservation Cell we are developing programs that will directly involve the locals and benefit them. We believe that carefully developed natural resource based enterprise development programs involving the locals will reduce their direct dependence on the wild habitats. Thus we plan to introduce a list of programs that will encourage the locals to conserve the nature for their own and their children's future.
Training
We conduct an intensive annual training program for our lodge naturalists and staff during the off season monsoon period. The training includes wildlife observation skills, communication skills, recording and documenting observations, activities of the Conservation Cell and others. From this year onwards we plan to increase this effort to at-least 2 training programs per year. Over and above this all the lodge staff participate in a monthly update and briefing session. We provide regular updates and material to our lodge naturalists on wildlife and conservation related issues and also have a well stocked wildlife library at each of our lodges for ready reference.&
